ABOUT THE SPIEGELTENT
The Spiegeltent (Dutch for “Mirrortent”) originated in Belgium during the late nineteenth century and is designed to be easily transported.
With their lavishly carved wooden interiors that were covered in mirrors, their stained-glass windows, velvet and brocade upholstered seating booths and their old-style bars, spiegeltents reveal the decadence of an era long gone. The mirrored poles are said to have allowed people to catch the eye of a lover in the booth next-door in secret.
Spiegeltents were very famous in the late 1800’s, set up as bars, dance halls and theatres, hosting international performers and stars including Marlene Dietrich, Edith Piaf, Charlie Chaplin & Kurt Weill. They continue to be the home of intimate circus performances all around the world
Audiences are seated around a small stage no larger than 3 meters wide and are so close to the action they feel as though you’re are a part of the show.
The tents are ornately designed and hand-crafted, creating a unique and dazzling environment and becoming attractions in their own right.
