THE STRUT & FRET STORY
Since its inception in 1997, Strut & Fret has built a reputation as one of Australian leading creative forces producing theatrical experiences, events, venues and full-scale festival experiences across Australia and internationally.
The imaginative schemers behind Strut & Fret, Scott Maidment and Sarah Stewart, met in 2000 while working on a production for Brisbane Festival, The Secret Death of Salvador Dali. They took their first work to the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2001, producing Australia’s premier freakshow, The Happy Sideshow at The Assembly Rooms, one of Scotland’s most prestigious venues.
The following year in partnership with Buxton Walker, they delivered an event for the Adelaide Fringe that would grow over the next 20 years, into The Garden of Unearthly Delights, Australia’s premier festival precinct. This unique festival playground hosts multiple performance venues, bars, carnival rides, an array of world foods, market stalls, and the most unexpected sideshow surprises for audiences of over 800,000 people annually.
Strut & Fret’s creations include among others: Shenzo’s Electric Stunt Orchestra, Tom Tom Crew, Cantina, A Company of Strangers, Feasting on Flesh LIMBO, Fear & Delight, LIFE the Show, The Party, The Purple Rabbit, La Ronde and Blanc de Blanc.
