Driving
The Grand Electric is located in Surry Hills where there is limited street parking available. The nearest streets with street parking are Pitt Street (2 hour parking until 10pm every day) and George Street (unlimited after 5pm and on weekends). There are disabled parking bays at 103-109 George Street and 10 Pitt Street. The nearest parking garage is Wilson Parking – 55 Holt St Surry Hills, which is an 10 minute walk.
The Grand Electric courtyard bar is open for drinks and snacks from 1 hour 15 minutes before the show.

If booking for a group larger than the maximum number available on the booking page, please email [email protected] so we can assist.

Our Parisian-inspired courtyard is open to the public from 60 minutes before the show’s start time. The theatre itself cannot be entered without a ticket but anyone is invited to enjoy our Courtyard bar.
Currently The Grand Electric is not fully accessible. The theatre has level access from the street. However, due to the age of the building and its location in a heritage conservation area there are currently no accessible or ambulant toilet facilities on site. If you or anyone in your party have access requirements, please get in touch so that we can provide advice particular to your needs. We are exploring ways to upgrade the facilities in the future.
The Grand Electric supports the Companion Card program. Tickets are available for the companion/carer of a patron who holds a companion card. After you have booked your full price ticket, please email [email protected] to request your companion ticket.
Please feel free to wear whatever makes you feel Grand! No dress code is enforced but guests are encouraged to embrace the theme of the show.
The shows performed at The Grand Electric vary, it is best to check the event listing for each event before you purchase your ticket.
There are a multitude of dining options in the neighbourhoods of Surry Hills and Redfern. Restaurants can be found all along Redfern Street and Pitt Street, and the bustle of Crown Street is only a 10 minute walk away.

THE HISTORY OF THE GRAND ELECTRIC BUILDING
The building which houses The Grand Electric was originally built to house the NSW branch of the Australian Railway Union in the 1930s. This history is present in the star-shaped insignia of the ARU, still visible on the front of the building. There is evidence that the space was used for occasional theatre and burlesque performances as early as the 1940s. However the space has been used exclusively for theatre since the Performance Space for contemporary performance was established in the 1980s. Today, the spirit of the railway workers who originally used the space as a union hall are carried through in the turn-of-the-century railway themed décor.
